The Wollaton kitchen painting project

This was an existing wooden kitchen of around 20 years old. The main kitchen cabinets had been previously painted a few times over the years and were in need of a thorough sanding down and preparation to eliminate the heavy brush marks that could be seen throughout from the previous painting. We use dustless sanding equipment during this process so you can rest assured your house wont have a layer of dust throughout when we’ve been sanding. The island was made from oak and oak veneer and the clients had decided to keep the island as oak to give it a nice contrast to the main kitchen cabinets.

The existing black granite worktops would be changed for new quartz stone tops supplied by Impala Stone in Derbyshire. Also the existing dark pewter pull knobs on the doors and drawers were going to be changed for a modern chrome nickel type finish. All of this adding quality and complementing the new hand painted finish.
If you do consider changing the hardware as part of your kitchen makeover, we can supply a huge selection of cabinet hardware from our recommended ironmongery suppliers Slingers 1858 they also offer some great discounts to our clients, so always worth considering.

Hand painting an existing kitchen
The kitchen cabinets were painted in the equivalent colour to Driftwood by Neptune Paints. The paint we use is a durable finish, most suitable for hand painted kitchens and is supplied in a soft matte finish (Other sheen levels are available). This is by far the most popular finish for hand painting kitchens, with a flat subtle finish. It can be supplied in almost any colour palette of your choice. The tiled splash back behind the range cooker would also be replaced, but at the time of painting this kitchen, it hadn’t been completed. Coloured glass splash-backs are a popular alternative to tiles and do offer a very modern look.

Once all the kitchen painting was finished with a tinted primer and two full top coats, we re-fitted all the doors and drawers and fitted the new cabinet hardware. These were being replaced like for like but we can fill existing holes where handles and knobs have been and re drill for new, so options for new hardware are literally unlimited. Its surprising what a big difference new hardware can make when hand painting an existing kitchen.

If you are considering hand painting an existing kitchen that you would like updating. Hand painting is a great option. Its hassle free as opposed to replacement and much friendlier to the environment than spray painting can make a huge improvement to your home.
